Before Installing studs on snowmobile

• Never install snowmobile studs on a ruined or damaged snowmobile track. Make sure you inspect the studs AND the tracks before starting.
• Make sure the studs that you’ve purchased are the desired penetration level. Make sure of the distance between the track and the tunnel.
• Make sure your snowmobile sled has the proper tunnel protection and do not install the studs under the protection strips

Test the New Snowmobile Studs

Once the snowmobile studs are installed, you’ll want to take your snowmobile out for a test run. Just make sure you’ve followed the instructions exactly. Boots need to be water resistant, protect against the cold, and fit right. You’ll want to make sure you can hike a few miles in the boots you choose in case something happens to the snowmobile and you have to hike out. Comfort would be a good thing in this case. You do not want something rubbing or too tight that your feet sweat excessively.

Other Snowmobile Clothing Precautions

There is a list of items one should wear while riding the snow trails of Idaho, or anywhere. A good pair of goggles is also nice to have. Some where goggles in addition to a face mask. This will help protect the eyes and skin on your face (if you do not have a full face helmet) from freezing or getting frostbite.

You can only have too much fun while snowmobiling but if you’re wearing the right snowmobile clothing and gear, you’re bound to have fun gliding through the soft Idaho snow during the winter. Remember always to keep your eyes open, bring a GPS and cell phone, and radio if you have one. Snowmobiling can be the best time of your Winter, it can also be your worst nightmare if not properly prepared.

This is for kids, this is for adults, or the entire family. Dress warm though, the weather can be cruel and cold. On the other hand, it can be crystal clear blue skies, with nothing but fresh snow ahead of you.

The Wildlife has brought many people to renting snowmobiles in Yellowstone. Not so much the quantity, but the diversity and accessibility. Many of the top tourist spots in the Summer can be accessed in Yellowstone Park including Old Faithful, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, the beautiful waterfalls (frozen most likely and what a sight!). The snow is constantly changing the landscape around you. If you go off by yourself onto the snow trails, make sure you carry a map. There are many miles of groomed trails in Yellowstone Park but easy to get lost.

The Pleasures of Snowmobiling in Yellowstone

There are more than one nation forest to play in. You can have the pleasure of going to Beaverhead, Targhee, and Gallatin National Forests. You can hit up Two Top Mountain, Big Springs, and Black Bear Canyon. All of these places are fun and visually amazing, both in the Summer and the Winter.

The Winter season offers over 20 miles of trails for both snow shoeing and Nordic skiing. Skating lanes are located on a few of the trails; Big Bend Trail and some of the Henry’s Forks, Golden Lake, and Meadow Loops. Mileage is on the map and the trails begin up at the Visitor Center. The trails begin with a blue diamond marking.

Harriman State Park Ski Trails

Here is a list of the Ski Trails located in Harriman State Park: Brimstone Trail (flat, long, and difficult… about 12 miles), Silver Lake Loop (follows the shoreline of Silver Lake. South side isn’t groomed. Difficult), Ranch Loop (goes along the shores of Silver Lake. Goes through Railroad Ranch), Golden Lake Loop (through meadows and lodgepole forests with small slopes. Moderate difficulty), Thurmon Creek Loop (follows an old logging road, travels through Lodgepole forest with small slopes, difficult), Big Bend Loop (flat and wide, great loop trail for skaters, possible strong winds, difficult), Ridge Trail (400 foot climb above Silver Lake, most challenging trail, ridge overlook provides awesome views, very steep in places, difficult).

There is also plenty of space for snowmobiling in this area. Just about everywhere you go in the surrounding area you’ll hear the buzzing of snowmobiles and people having fun. There is plenty of store and a restaurant for eating with the entire family or group gatherings. While out on the snow, you’ll possibly come ac cross a warming hut that will warm you to the core.

Enjoy your time in the Winter or the Summer in Harriman State Park. There is so much to do there for the outdoor enthusiast, the people are great and you won’t find a friendlier area in the US to go snowmobiling and participate in Winter fun!
